September 12, 2003 -- Overland Park, Kan. -- Today, three gas unions which collectively make up the United Steelworkers of America, International Union of Operating Engineers and Gas Workers Local Union No. 781, representing 497 Kansas Gas Service Employees, voted to ratify a 12-month labor contract retroactive to Aug. 1, 2003.
The one-year contract includes a two percent pay increase.
"I am pleased," said KGS President Phyllis Worley. "Since June, negotiating teams from KGS and the gas unions have worked toward reaching an agreement. I wish to express my appreciation to all those involved for their efforts to bring about this positive step forward."
Kansas Gas Service and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, local unions 304 and 1523, earlier agreed to a new three-year work contract retroactive to July 1, 2003.
